Gyaru style and makeup is evolving. Influenced by the current demands of the younger market and the rising influence of street style in Japan...Neo gal is an example of its newer more exciting offshoot but it is not to be confused with Gyaru...rather think of it as a progression from Gyaru. Older gals getting bored with the usual style and venturing out into harajuku/street fashion but they want to keep a bit of Gyaru style makeup in their look (although the makeup is more laid back and minimal. Pls. correct me if I'm wrong)
Anyway back to Gyaru!
Lately I am seeing more and more of the "Minimal/natural makeup look in Gyaru magazines and punchier/vibrant lip colors as opposed to the usual nudes and light pinks.
Lashes are also more airy/feathery as opposed to dagger like/thick strands and more minimal/natural looking (exemplified by the current lines of Dolly Wink and Diamond Lash) Brown lashes are also becoming more and more popular too!
Lenses are also more natural looking/toned down in terms of design
Haircolor is more forgiving also and I am seeing more and more natural (non-bleached) colors come back into the fray....even black is really trending right now!
For the more sophisticated Otona/Mode set a good example are the Happie Nuts models with their vibrant/darker colored lips, smoky eyes and their lashes are now more natural or minimal compared to previous issues. Lower lashes are not entirely ditched but I am seeing lots of mascara on the lower lashes and just accent lashes on the side only.
Eyebrows are inspired by Korean style ones and are straight and arch-less although not as dark/thick. If you want a more youthful look try this type of brow-shape! It really takes years off your face! It takes a lot of practice, requires shaving and some filling-in though.
Anyway Gyaru pic spam time! It's been such a long time since I did this :))))
A sexy minimal cat eye with a punchy lip
I know a lot of Gaijin Gyaru's are complaining about the current look saying it doesn't look authentic Gyaru or whatever but the thing is girls..trends come and go and they vary depending on the demands of the current Japanese Market. Gyaru style belongs to Japanese girls after all so who are we to complain?
How about you? What's your opinion on the current look?
Do you love it or hate it?
Stay fabulous! xx
I'd love to hear from you guys!
